I am in a Marriott in Charlotte, NC, and just had the traumatic experience of picking up a bottle of orange ginger body lotion and spreading some over my face, only to discover that it smells exactly like PLEDGE.

Ah, yes. The Marriot Marquis in Atlanta (where I tend to stay for DragonCon) boasts a similar vile substance.

veneer. I'd forgotten about that word, what a great word!

but I think Carolyn glints and sparkles and shimmers rather than shines... because underneath she's got that dark thing going on too that adds pastiche to her effect and probably completely cracked the veneer when she realized she was making herself smell like Pledge instead of the covetted orange and ginger... oh man, i need to take the break from over writing for a minute now...

Ha! Definitely, the veneer was a PLEDGE-inspired as opposed to Carolyn-inspired metaphor.
